ATLANTA BRAVES OPEN NL EAST SET IN NEW YORK WITH EXTRA INNING LOSS TO METS, DIVISION BATTLE CONTINUES THROUGH THE WEEKEND

The Atlanta Braves opened up a seven-game road trip with a loss to the New York Mets by a final score of 3-2 in 10 innings on Thursday night in the first meeting of a four-game National League East set at New York. That was the fifth consecutive loss for Atlanta.

Orlando Arcia had an RBI single to get the Braves on the board in the top of the second inning. Francisco Lindor hit a home run that gave the Mets a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third. Travis d’Arnaud had an RBI single for Atlanta that tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the sixth.

Jeff McNeil secured the 3-2 victory for the Mets with a walk-off single that was overran by the Braves’ right fielder Ramon Laureano in the bottom of the 10th.

Pierce Johnson was charged with the loss for Atlanta. Phil Maton was New York’s winning pitcher.

The Braves will continue their series in New York through the weekend, then will head to Milwaukee for a three game set against the Brewers to conclude the month of July early next week.
