ATLANTA BRAVES OPEN WESTERN ROAD TRIP WITH EXTRA INNING VICTORY OVER ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

The Atlanta Braves opened a seven-game road trip out west with a 5-4 win in 11 innings over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night in game one of a four game set at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ. That marked the third straight win for Atlanta.

The Braves struck first with a solo home run by Austin Riley in the top of the first inning. The Diamondbacks took the lead with three runs in the bottom of sixth on an RBI single from Corbin Carroll, a walk from Christian Walker, and a sac fly by Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Sean Murphy clubbed a two-run homer for Atlanta which tied the game up at 3-3 in the top of the ninth.

Eddie Rosario scored on that home run from Murphy. Rosario returned to the Braves’ line-up upon being promoted from Triple A Gwinnett earlier in the day. He recently signed with Atlanta after being released by the Washington Nationals.

The game was tied at 4-4 by the end of the 10th with sac flies by Ozzie Albies for the Braves and Geraldo Perdomo for the D’backs in that inning. Marcell Ozuna hit a sac fly in the top of the 11th to drive in what would turn out to be the winning run for Atlanta.

Rasiel Iglesias was credited with the win for Atlanta, and Joe Jimenez got the save. Justin Martinez took the loss for Arizona.

The Braves remain in second place of the National League East with a record of 50-39, while the Diamondbacks are in third place of the NL West at 45-46.
