The Atlanta Braves fell to the Pittsburgh Pirates by 4-2 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game set at Truist Park. Atlanta still took the series by two games to one.
The Braves struck first during the bottom of the fourth inning when Marcell Ozuna reached home plate on a double-play grounder from Austin Riley. But the Pirates surged ahead with a couple of two-run homers by Oneil Cruz and Rowdy Tellez in the top of the fifth. Orlando Arcia had a sac fly which drove Adam Duvall home to notch Atlanta’s second run of the game in the bottom of the ninth.
Spencer Schwellenbach was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up four runs and five hits, walking two, and striking out seven in five innings of work. Bailey Falter got the win and Aroldis Chapman picked up the save for Pittsburgh.
The Braves remain in second place of the National League East with a record of 46-36 on the 2024 season. They have a scheduled off-day today and will continue their current nine game homestand this Tuesday evening with the first of three outings versus the San Francisco Giants.
