(Media release from the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency):
The Georgia Emergency Management & Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) is pleased to announce the award of a $19,493,349.00 Hazard Mitigation Grant Program project aimed at providing emergency backup power for critical facilities across the state. This funding will enable 43 local governments and 2 state agencies to enhance their preparedness and resilience to natural hazards.
The grant will fund the purchase and installation of 154 fixed generators, 31 portable generators, 64 transfer switches, 2 portable bypass pumps, and 9 bypass connections. These essential resources will be distributed to 190 critical facilities, including healthcare, emergency services, and water and wastewater infrastructure throughout Georgia.
The award is part of GEMA/HS’s ongoing efforts aimed at providing secondary power sources for critical infrastructure. By securing reliable backup power, Georgia continues to strengthen its preparedness and response capabilities in the face of natural disasters and other emergencies.
HMGP projects reduce or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from the effects of natural hazards by breaking the repetitive cycle of destruction and reconstruction.
