The Atlanta Braves fell to the Tampa Bay Rays by 8-6 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game set at Truist Park. It marked the end of a three-game winning streak for the Braves, who still took the weekend series by two games to one.
The Rays struck first with an RBI single from Randy Arozarena in the top of the first. The Braves tied it up with a home run by Jarred Kelenic to open the bottom of that inning. Travis d’Arnaud put Atlanta in front by 2-1 with a solo shot in the bottom of the second. The Rays tied it at 2-2 with a home run from Brandon Lowe in the top of the third and took a 6-2 lead on a grand slam by Ben Rortvedt in the fourth. The Braves picked up a couple of runs in the bottom of the sixth as Adam Duvall hit an RBI single and Austin Riley scored on a throwing error. Riley clubbed a two-run homer to tie the game up at 6-6 in the bottom of the eighth. However, the Rays surged ahead on a two-run homer by Jose Siri in the top of the ninth and went on to win the game, again, by a final score of 8-6.
Raisel Iglesias was charged with the loss for Atlanta. Jason Adam picked up the win and Pete Fairbanks got the save for Tampa Bay.
The Braves remain in second place of the National League East with a record of 38-31. They will continue their current six-game homestand tonight with the first of three games against the Detroit Tigers. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:20 pm.
