FLOYD EMA: DETOUR SCHEDULED TO BEGIN MONDAY

(Media release from Floyd County Emergency Management Agency):

Road construction will cause traffic delays for motorists traveling out of Rome on Turner McCall beginning Monday. The Darlington Drive exit has been identified as the primary detour, but public safety is encouraging the community to utilize other options as well.

The bridge for the southbound Cartersville exit from Turner McCall Boulevard will be closed for construction beginning June 17, 2024. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the project is expected to last two weeks and be complete July 1.

The official detour directs all southbound traffic onto Cedartown Highway (US 27) where it will exit at Darlington Drive near AgPro. Vehicles will turn left to cross the highway and then turn left again to return to the highway and merge onto Cartersville Highway (Ga 20 / US 411).

Due to the volume of traffic that utilizes the Cartersville exit from Turner McCall, public safety is encouraging motorists to seek out other detours such as the Rome Bypass (Ga Loop 1).

Detour options include:

  1. Turner McCall to 12th Street exit; right onto Dean Street (Ga 101) and then left onto Cartersville Highway (Ga 20 / US411)
  2. Turner McCall to Maple Street exit; turn left and then left again to merge onto Cartersville Highway (Ga 20 / US 411).
  3. Turner McCall to Five Points; connect to New Calhoun Highway (Ga 53) or Kingston Highway (Ga 293) to utilize Rome bypass (Ga Loop 1) to Cartersville Highway (Ga 20 / US 411).

The contractor for this project is Comanche Construction of Georgia, which is based in Marietta.
