The Atlanta Braves lost to the Washington Nationals by a final score of 7-2 on Wednesday night in the third outing of a four game National League East set at Truist Park. It allowed Washington to take a 2-1 lead in the series.
The Braves opened the scoring with an RBI single from Marcell Ozuna in the bottom of the third inning. However, the Nationals surged ahead in the fifth with a three-run homer from Lane Thomas. They added two more in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Jacob Young. Travis d’Arnaud drove in a run for the Braves with an RBI groundout in the bottom of that inning. The Nats notched two more runs on an RBI single from Keibert Ruiz during the ninth and won the game, again, by a final score of 7-2.
Spencer Schwellenbach took the loss for Atlanta in his major league debut. He surrendered three runs and five hits, walked one, and struck out five over five innings. MacKenzie Gore got the win for Washington.
