The Atlanta Braves opened a seven-game homestand on Monday afternoon with a loss to the Washington Nationals by 8-4 in the first meeting of a four-game National League East series at Truist Park. That was the Braves’ first outing since losing Ronald Acuna Jr. for the season on Sunday with a torn ACL.
The Nationals scored four runs during the top of the first inning on an RBI double from (former Brave) Eddie Rosario, an RBI single from Jesse Winker, and a two-run double by Nick Senzel. They scored another run in the second on a solo homer by CJ Abrams, another during the third, and two more in the sixth. The Braves jumped on the board with four runs in the seventh. Sean Murphy got it started with an RBI ground out. That was his first RBI of 2024 after being sidelined due to injury since the beginning of the regular season.
Adam Duvall contributed a two-run homer. Orlando Arcia also had an RBI single in that inning. But that was not enough for the Braves to overcome the Nationals, who won Monday’s outing, again, by a final score of 8-4.
Charlie Morton was charged with the loss for Atlanta after surrendering eight runs and 12 hits, walking two, and striking out seven over five and two-third innings. Mitchell Parker picked up the win for Washington.
The Braves will face the Nationals again tonight at 7:20 pm. Tune into play-by-play coverage from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network locally on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; airtime is 6:05 pm.
