ATLANTA BRAVES CLOSE OUT SERIES IN CHICAGO WITH SHUTOUT WIN OVER THE CUBS, SERIES IN PITTSBURGH VERSUS THE PIRATES ON TAP FOR THIS WEEKEND

The Atlanta Braves blanked the Chicago Cubs by 3-0 on Thursday afternoon in the final outing of a three-game set at Wrigley Field up in Chicago, IL. It was the eighth shutout victory of the year for the Braves, who took the series by two games to one.

Jarred Kelenic got Atlanta on the board with a home run to lead off the top of the fifth inning. The Braves added two more runs in the eighth on an RBI single from Ozzie Albies and a sac fly by Marcell Ozuna.

Atlanta starting pitcher AJ Smith-Shawver surrendered just three hits, walked two, and struck out four over four and one-third scoreless innings. Dylan Lee was credited with the win, and Raisel Iglesias got the save. Hayden Wesneski was charged with the loss for Chicago.

The Braves remain in second place of the National League East with a record of 29-18 on the 2024 regular season. They will be in Pittsburgh, PA over the weekend for a three-game set against the Pirates. The first pitch of tonight’s series opener is slated for 6:40 pm.
