ATLANTA BRAVES DROP SERIES FINALE, DENIED A SWEEP OF CHICAGO CUBS

The Atlanta Braves lost to the Chicago Cubs by 7-1 on Wednesday night in the finale of a three-game set at Truist Park. Atlanta was denied a sweep, but took the series by 2-1.

Mike Tauchman got the Cubs on the board with a home run off the first pitch of the game by Charlie Morton. Chicago added two more runs in that inning as Christopher Morel had an RBI groundout and Pete Crow-Armstrong was hit by a pitch, then went on to notch another run during the third when Miles Mastrobuoni scored on an error and another in the fifth on an RBI bunt single by Crow-Armstrong. Zack Short drove in the Braves’ lone run of the night with an RBI double in the seventh. The Cubs added two more in the eighth on a sac fly from Yan Gomes and a solo home run by Seiya Suzuki. They won the game, again, by a final score of 7-1.

Morton was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up four runs (three earned) and five hits, walking three, and striking out four in just three innings of work. Javier Assad was credited with the win for Chicago.

The Braves remain in second place of the National League East with a record of 26-14. They are off today and will return to action on Friday evening with the opener of a four game set at home versus the San Diego Padres. The first pitch is slated for 7:20 pm.
