ATLANTA BRAVES DENIED SWEEP OF NL EAST SET VERSUS NEW YORK METS WITH LOSS IN SUNDAY FINALE

The Atlanta Braves fell to the New York Mets by 4-3 on Sunday night in the finale of a three-game National League East set in New York. That denied a sweep of the series for the Braves, whose most recent winning streak came to an end at four straight games.

Jarred Kelenic got Atlanta on the board with a home run during the top of the second inning. Pete Alonso had an RBI single for the Mets that tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the third. Marcell Ozuna put the Braves ahead by 2-1 with an RBI single in the top of the sixth. Alonso tied the game again with an RBI double in the bottom of that inning. Ozuna again delivered the tiebreaker in favor of the Braves with an RBI single in the eighth. However, the Mets emerged victorious in this battle among division rivals with a walk-off, two-run homer from Brandon Nimmo in the bottom of the ninth.

AJ Minter was charged with the loss for Atlanta. Edwin Diaz was credited with the win for New York.

The Braves remain in second place of the NL East with a record of 24-13 on the 2024 regular season. They will return to Truist Park in Atlanta tonight to begin a seven game homestand with the opener of a three-game set versus the Chicago Cubs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:20 pm.
