GHC YOUTH FISHING RODEO TO RETURN ON JUNE 1ST

(Media release from Georgia Highlands College):

Calling young anglers: it’s time for the Annual GHC Youth Fishing Rodeo.

Georgia Highlands College (GHC) will host its Annual GHC Youth Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, June 1, at Paris Lake on the Floyd Campus, 3175 Cedartown Hwy, Rome, Ga.

Fishing will begin at 8:30AM with the last weigh-in for prizes at 11:30AM.

The event is free and open to children under the age of 15. Parents and guardians can assist young children but should not be actively fishing on their behalf.

A heaviest fish contest with prizes will be awarded for each age category: 5 and under, ages 6 to 8, ages 9 to 11 and ages 12 to 15.

Other free activities will also be available for children.

“GHC hosts events like this as part of our continued efforts to be a part of our service community,” Dean of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Jason Christian said. “The outreach events we provide, whether it be supporting K-12 or fishing rodeos, are examples of the way we connect back with our region and serve the community.”

The Inaugural Youth Fishing Rodeo, held in the spring of 2023, was a great success, with 300 to 400 participants.

“This should be a day of fun! Bring your family and enjoy some local food options, bouncy houses, fishing and just time outdoors with those you love,” Christian said.

Free loaner gear will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Food will be available for purchase along with a cash-only raffle with a 50/50 cash prize, tickets to local museums and more.

In addition, the college is planning to stock Paris Lake with catchable size fish prior to the Annual GHC Youth Fishing Rodeo.
