Sheriff Dave Roberson qualified on Monday to run for a second term in office, seeking reelection in the Republican Primary on May 21.
“I want to sincerely thank you for the opportunity to serve as your sheriff for the last three years; it has been the greatest honor of my life,” said Roberson. “I’m hopeful that voters will see what I’ve done within our agency and in our community since I took office and give me the opportunity to continue this important work by reelecting me.”
Roberson, who comes from a family of public servants, has 29 years of continuous service with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, working his way up from jail officer and holding supervisory roles in each of the four divisions before becoming sheriff in 2021. He holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Shorter University.
“When you elected me, I promised to bring new energy and ideas to the table, and to focus on four areas that would make our agency and our community better – I refer to these as the 4 Rs: Relationships, Recidivism, Recruitment & Retention of Employees, and Revenue,” he said. “We’ve made great strides in each of these areas, and I look forward to sharing more about that throughout my campaign. I’m very proud of our team, and I will work hard to earn your vote so we can continue what we’ve started.”
His first term in office also marked the opening of the SPLOST-funded medical and mental health wings at the jail as well as the launch of an agency app to help keep the public connected and informed.
Roberson is passionate about serving the community and was recognized with the Georgia Department of Community Supervision Public Stakeholder Award in 2022. He is a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Noon Optimist Club, Exchange Club, and serves on the board of directors for Blood Assurance, the Community Criminal Justice Foundation, Harbor House Child Advocacy Center and the Sexual Assault Center of NWGA. He is also an advisory board member for NextDoor at LivingProof Recovery and a volunteer with Rome-Floyd Parks & Recreation’s Challenger Baseball and Basketball Leagues.
“I care deeply about this community and the people I work with, and I want to make sure we are always doing what’s right and best for all the citizens of Floyd County,” he said.
