Our eSports team is coached by Lee Green and Kevin Van Der Horn, and they are housed at our College and Career Academy. The team is quickly growing, and we are excited we are able to offer this opportunity to our students.
Below is a breakdown of the teams and their recent success in the season opener.
CHS eSports
Hailing from Coosa High School we are excited to have a returning Nick Hight playing Madden 24 for the Coosa High School eSports team! Nick is hoping to repeat his previous success when he made the playoffs a couple of years ago. This week Nick will be facing Early County High School Thursday where he looks to get his record 1-1.
We are also excited to welcome the Rocket League team of Christopher Caldwell, Jackson Fowler, and Michael Shirley. This week they will be taking on South Effingham High School on Thursday.
MHS eSports
After the first week of competition in Rocket League, Model High School’s own Tristen Whittier is at the top of the stats for the week. He’s coming in second in Goals Per Shot % at 83.33% and is first place in Score Per Game with 678 points! We are also excited to have other Model High School eSports teams back at it again this Wednesday with Super Smash Bros. Representing MHS we have Hunter Dills, Christian Cox and Luke Crumbley making up the Really Intermediate Players, as well as Hiram Maples, Ethan Tolbert, Christian Castillo, and Alex Tuck, making up the Steven Eliminators. On Thursday Tristen Whittier, Ian Dean, and Sam Gaylash of the Goal Diggers (Rocket League) will be facing Northwest Whitfield High School.
PHS eSports
The returning Caleb Davis and Ben Ozier are joined by Liam Henley and Jhudge Williams to make up the Pepperell High School Super Smash Bros team. After some struggles last season, the team had a cruising 3-0 victory over Roswell High School. This week the team is looking to keep their winning ways going with a matchup against Martha Ellen Stilwell School of the Arts on Wednesday at 4:00. Be sure to wish them good luck.
What is eSports?
Electronic sports (esports) is a type of highly organized, video game-based competitive sport that is open to anyone. They are usually played individually or in teams.
Like any sport, each player/team must follow a set of rules, utilize specialized equipment, and work together to win.
The games can range from Madden and NBA to arcade-style soccer using rocket-powered cars to 1-on-1 platform fighting using popular Nintendo characters.
