WLAQ 1410 AM and 96.9 FM will have broadcast coverage of Model High School’s basketball teams in the Region 7-AA championship games tonight. The Lady Blue Devils will take on host Murray County at 7 pm, and the Blue Devils will face Rockmart at 8:30 pm.
Model’s girls advanced to the championship round of the region tournament with a 53-42 victory over Fannin County in the semifinal round on Thursday night. Model’s boys beat North Murray in the semis by 61-54.
There’s nothing like tournament time for local high school basketball teams, attests WLAQ Sports’ Matt Davis.
Model’s boys made it all the way to the Final Four in last year’s GHSA state playoffs. Davis provided play-by-play coverage and fondly remembers that postseason run as ‘magical’. He is excited to see what’s ahead for both Model teams in this year’s state playoffs, which begin next week.
