GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF LABOR: SEPTEMBER UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPS IN ROME, NORTHWEST GEORGIA

(Media release from the Georgia Department of Labor):

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson said Thursday that Rome recorded an unemployment rate of 3.3 percent in September, down six-tenths of a percent over the month. A year ago, the rate was 2.7 percent.

“Georgia reigns as the ultimate destination for business and economic opportunity,” said Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson. “However, with recent workforce reductions at Geico, Yellow Freight, and other companies throughout the state, we need to be cognizant of the financial pressures creating some instability within our existing business community. In today’s ever-shifting global market, we must remain vigilant and lead with innovation.”

Rome finished the month with 44,245 employed residents. That number increased by 240 over-the-month and rose by 1,388 when compared to the same time a year ago.

Rome ended September with 44,700 jobs. That number decreased by 100 from August to September and rose by 1,300 when compared to this time last year.
