GARDENERS, LEAF PEEPERS READY FOR FALL!

The weather will be ideal for planting as we enter the season of Autumn (aka Fall) over the weekend.

Keith Mickler, Floyd County’s UGA Extension Coordinator, says that this is a a good time of year to plant shrubs and trees. He adds that the wide variety of trees and shrubs that are currently available can add diversity to gardeners’ landscapes.

Now is also an ideal time to plant vegetables like collards, turnips, spinach, and more, says Mickler.

Gardeners may get gardening tips from UGA Extension for Autumn (or Fall) online at www.extension.uga.edu.

The new season will begin here in the Earth’s Northern Hemisphere with the autumnal equinox at 2:50 am on Saturday, September 23rd.

Mickler will be joined by Terry Paige, retired Arborist for the City of Rome, and John Hendrickson with the city’s Tree Board for their annual Tree Walk from 2 pm until 4 pm on Tuesday, October 31st at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. All Romans are invited to participate and enjoy Fall color.

Folks all around Georgia are ready for Fall color, according to Kim Hatcher, Public Affairs Coordinator for Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites, whose Georgia Leaf Watch ’23 travel planner is available at www.gastateparks.org.
