(Media release from Floyd County Emergency Management):
Authorities will close Alabama Highway at Plant Hammond on Saturday morning in advance of the scheduled demolition of smoke stacks at Georgia Power. The river behind the facility will also be closed as well as Foster Mill Road at the Coosa River bridge.
The highway closure will begin at 7:45 a.m. on September 23, 2023, and with favorable circumstances will last about 45 minutes. Georgia Power cautions that times may change depending on work activity that requires more time
Highway closures will occur at:
- Alabama Highway (Ga 20 westbound) at Huffaker Road
- Foster Mill Road (Ga 100 south) at Coosa River bridge
- Alabama Highway (Ga 20 eastbound) at Foster Mill Road (Ga 100 south)
Emergency Management will be posting advisories on social media, as well as on the Floyd County EMA mobile app and Code Red (email, text and mobile app) notifications. Please advise your staff / community partners to help us get the word out.
