The Atlanta Braves clinched a sixth straight National League East title with a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday evening in the finale of a four-game set at Citizens Bank Park up in Philadelphia, PA. Atlanta took the series by 3-1 and improved their MLB-best record to 96-50.
Austin Riley got the Braves on the board with a two-run homer in the top of the first. The Phillies scored their lone run of the night in the bottom of that inning on an RBI single by Bryson Stott. Riley added another run with a sac fly in the third. Kevin Pillar had an RBI double that put the Braves ahead by 4-1 in the fourth.
Spencer Strider was the winning pitcher for Atlanta; he gave up just one run and four hits, walked two, and struck out nine in seven innings. Kirby Yates picked up the save. Cristopher Sanchez took the loss for Philadelphia.
The Braves are off tonight and will continue the current seven-game road trip this weekend with a trio of games in Miami, FL versus the Marlins. The first pitch of Friday night’s series opener is slated for 6:40 pm. The game will not air on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM due to our coverage of high school football.
