MATT OLSON TIES FRANCHISE RECORD FOR MOST HOME RUNS IN A SEASON AS ATLANTA BRAVES BEAT PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES IN 10 INNING GAME ON TUESDAY NIGHT

The Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies by 7-6 over 10 innings on Tuesday night in the third meeting of a four-game set at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA. It allowed Atlanta to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

The Phillies scored the first run of the night on a homer by Nick Castellanos in the bottom of the second inning. Matt Olson hit a lead-off home run in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1. That marked his 51st home run of the 2023 season, which allowed him to tie the Braves’ record for most home runs in a single season set by Andruw Jones in 2005.

The Braves scored five runs in the fifth on a two-run homer by Ronald Acuna Jr. and a three-run shot from Marcell Ozuna. The Phillies scored another run in the seventh on an RBI single by Trea Turner, three in the eighth with a solo home run by Bryce Harper and a two-run homer by Bryson Stott, and tied the game at 6-6 on a lead-off home run by Turner in the ninth. Eddie Rosario hit an RBI single to give the Braves a 7-6 lead in the 10th, and it was by that final score that they beat the Phillies.

The Braves have also set a new National League record for most home runs in a season at 281.

Raisel Iglesias was credited with the win in relief for Atlanta, and Brad Hand picked up the save. Starting pitcher Max Fried surrendered just one run and four hits, walked two, and struck out six in five innings. Craig Kimbrel took the loss for Philadelphia.

The National League East-leading Braves improved their MLB-best record to 95-50 on the 2023 regular season. Their magic number to clinch the division is now two. The second-place Phillies are 79-66. Those teams’ series finale in Philadelphia is scheduled for this evening at 6:40 pm. Catch all the action on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; airtime is 5:25 pm from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.
