ATLANTA BRAVES OPEN HOMESTAND WITH LOSS TO ST. LOUIS CARDINALS

The Atlanta Braves began a six-game homestand with a loss to the St. Louis Cardinals by 10-6 on Tuesday night in the first meeting of a three-game set at Truist Park. It marked the second straight loss for Atlanta.

Ozzie Albies got the Braves on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. The Cardinals notched three runs in the top of the second on an RBI double by Jordan Walker and a two-run homer from Tyler O’Neill. They added two more in the third on a homer by Nolan Gorman and another on a solo shot by Walker in the fourth. They took a 9-1 lead with three runs in the top of the sixth on an RBI double from Tommy Edman, a grounder by Masyn Winn and an RBI single by Paul Goldschmidt. Austin Riley and Matt Olson clubbed back-to-back home runs for Atlanta during the bottom of that inning.

The Braves scored three more runs in the eighth with a lead-off homer from Marcell Ozuna, an RBI double by Orlando Arcia, and a ground out by Ronald Acuna Jr. Gorman hit another homer for the Cardinals in the top of the ninth. The Cards secured the win, again, by a final score of 10-6.

Michael Soroka was charged with the loss for Atlanta after surrendering five runs and four hits, walking one, and striking out six over just three innings of work. Miles Mikolas was credited with the win for St. Louis.

The National League East-leading Braves still have the best record in MLB, now 90-47 for the 2023 regular season. The Cardinals are 60-78 and in last place of the NL Central. The teams will meet again tonight in Atlanta. First pitch is slated for 7:20 pm. Catch all the action on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; airtime is 6:05 pm from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.
