ATLANTA BRAVES LOSE NL EAST SERIES OPENER TO NEW YORK METS AT TRUIST PARK

The Atlanta Braves lost to the New York Mets 10-4 on Monday night in the first outing of a three-game National League East series at Truist Park. That was the second straight loss for Atlanta.

The Mets got on the board with a solo home run by DJ Stewart and a two-run shot by Rafael Ortega in the top of the second. Marcell Ozuna clubbed a solo home run in the bottom of that inning. Michael Harris II tied the game at 3-3 with a two-run double in the third. Ozuna broke the tie with his second home run of the night, a solo shot in the fourth.

However, the Mets scored four runs during the fifth on RBI singles from Jeff McNeil, Pete Alonso, and Daniel Vogelbach and a sacrifice bunt by Stewart. Francisco Lindor added a three run homer in the sixth, and the visiting Mets beat the homestanding Braves, again, by the final score of 10-4.

Allan Winans took the loss for Atlanta after surrendering seven runs and nine hits, walking one, and striking out four over four and one-third innings. Phil Bickford got the win for New York.

The NL East-leading Braves still have the best record in MLB, now 80-44 on the 2023 season. The Mets are in fourth place of the division with a record of 59-67. The teams will meet again tonight at 7:20 pm. Catch all the action on WLAQ 1410 AM/96.9 FM; airtime is 6:05 pm from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.
