(Media release from the Rome Braves):
On the back of a three hit night from Nacho Alvarez Jr, the Rome Braves notched their second straight win over the Winston-Salem Dash.
The Rome Braves would send Cedric De Grandpre to the mound in hopes of taking an advantage in the series. De Grandpre, in his eighteenth game in 2023, would go to work early by retiring the side in order to open up the game.
The righty would get run support in the game’s first two frames by way of a David McCabe single in the first, and a four run outburst in the home half of the second. Nacho Alvarez Jr would tack on the forth and fifth runs of the night as he tallied his 103rd hit of the season, driving in Stephen Paolini and and Kadon Morton. Alvarez’s 105 total hits leads all active South Atlantic League players.
De Grandpre would turn in a final line of five runs on five hits, while striking out six over five innings.
The Dash and Braves would trade blows all night long before Rome finally pushed across the go ahead run in the home half of the eighth with a Keshawn Ogans sacrifice fly that scored Nacho Alvarez Jr.
The eight to seven win is Rome’s forty-eighth of the season. The Braves and Dash will continue the series on Friday night as the Rome Braves Pink Out The Park in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. First pitch is slated for 7:00pm.
