ATLANTA BRAVES TURN MLB’S FIRST TRIPLE PLAY OF THE YEAR, STILL DROP SERIES OPENER IN BOSTON TO RED SOX

The Atlanta Braves were defeated by the Boston Red Sox by 7-1 on Tuesday night in the rain-delayed first outing of a two-game interleague set at Fenway Park in Boston, MA.

The Braves scored the first run of the night on an RBI single by Sean Murphy in the top of the first inning. The Red Sox notched two runs in the bottom of the second on a bases-loaded walk from Tristan Casas and an RBI single by Christian Arroyo. Atlanta turned MLB’s first triple play of this season in the bottom of the third. The Red Sox went on to score two more runs in the fourth on RBI singles by Jarren Duran and Rafael Devers. They added another in the fifth on an RBI single from Yu Chang and two more in the eighth on a home run by Masataka Yoshida.

Charlie Morton was charged with the loss for Atlanta after surrendering four runs and six hits, walking five, and striking out one in just three and two-third innings. Nick Pivetta was credited with the win for Boston.

The National League East-leading Braves still have the best record in MLB, now 64-35 on the 2023 regular season. The Red Sox are 54-47 and in fourth place of the American League East.
