ATLANTA BRAVES WRAP UP SERIES IN CLEVELAND WITH WIN OVER GUARDIANS

The Atlanta Braves beat the Cleveland Guardians 8-1 on Wednesday night in the finale of a three-game set in Cleveland, OH. That allowed Atlanta to take the series by 2-1.

The Braves scored four runs during the top of the first inning on RBI singles from Matt Olson and Sean Murphy and a two-run double by Eddie Rosario. Murphy added a solo home run in the third. Austin Riley hit a lead-off homer in the seventh.Olson led off the top of the ninth with a homer. Michael Harris II grounded out to drive in another run for the Braves in that inning.

A ground-out by Amed Rosario in the bottom of the ninth accounted for the Guardians’ lone run of the night.

Atlanta’s starting pitcher Michael Soroka surrendered five hits, walked three, and struck out four in four and two-third innings. Michael Tonkin picked up the win in relief. Cal Quantrill took the loss for Cleveland.

The National League East-leading Braves now have an MLB-best record of 58-28 for the ’23 regular season. They are off tonight and will continue their six-game road trip with a three-game series in Florida against the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend.
