ATLANTA BRAVES BEGIN HOMESTAND WITH A WIN OVER THE MINNESOTA TWINS

The Atlanta Braves opened a six-game homestand with a 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Monday night in the first meeting of a three-game series at Truist Park. It was the third straight win for Atlanta.

The Twins opened the scoring with a solo home run by Joey Gallo in the top of the second inning. The Braves tied the game at 1-1 on an RBI ground out by Travis d’Arnaud during the bottom of the fourth. Marcell Ozuna clubbed a solo home run in the seventh to put Atlanta ahead by 2-1. Ronald Acuna Jr. also contributed a two-run shot in that inning to increase the Braves’ lead to 4-1.

Spencer Strider was Atlanta’s winning pitcher. He surrendered only one run and three hits, walked two, and struck out 10 over seven innings. Kirby Yates picked up the save. Sonny Gray took the loss for Minnesota.

The National League East-leading Braves are now 51-27 on the 2023 regular season, while the American League Central-leading Twins are 40-40. Those teams will meet tonight at 7:20 pm. Catch all the action on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; airtime is 6:05 pm.
