ATLANTA BRAVES OPEN ROAD TRIP WITH WIN IN PHILADELPHIA OVER THE PHILLIES

The Atlanta Braves began a six-game road trip on Tuesday night with a 4-2 win over the Philadelphia Phillies in the first match of a three-game National League East set at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. It marked the seventh consecutive victory for Atlanta and the end of a six-game winning streak for Philadelphia.

The Phillies notched the first run of the evening on an RBI single from Nick Castellanos during the bottom of the fifth inning. Austin Riley clubbed a solo home run for the Braves to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth.

Ronald Acuna Jr. put Atlanta ahead with an RBI single in the seventh. Ozzie Albies also had an RBI groundout in that inning. Matt Olson hit a solo home run to make it 4-1 in favor of the Braves during the eighth.

Kody Clemens drove in another run for the Phillies with an RBI groundout during the ninth, but the Braves held on for the victory, again, by a final score of 4-2.

Spencer Strider was the winning pitcher for Atlanta after giving up only one run and eight hits, walking none, and striking out nine in six innings. Raisel Iglesias was credited with the save. Jeff Hoffman was charged with the loss for Philadelphia.

The NL East-leading Braves are now 47-26 on the 2023 regular season, and the third-place Phillies are 38-35. They will meet again tonight in Philly with first pitch set for 6:40 pm. Listen on WLAQ 1410 AM or 96.9 FM; airtime is 5:25 pm from the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.
