The Atlanta Braves fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-6 on Monday night in the first outing of a three-game National League set at Truist Park.
Things initially looked hopeful for the Braves as they scored four runs during the bottom of the first inning, thanks in part to a three-run homer from Eddie Rosario.
But the Dodgers battled back and surged ahead with a three-run homer from Freddie Freeman, former Brave, during the top of the fifth inning.
JD Martinez had a pair of solo home runs for the Dodgers in the second and seventh innings.
Charlie Morton was charged with the loss for Atlanta after giving up six runs and seven hits, walking two, and striking out five through five innings. Evan Phillips secured the win in relief and Brusdar Graterol picked up the save for Los Angeles.
The National League East-leading Braves are now 29-18 on the 2023 regular season, and the NL West-leading Dodgers are 30-19. Those teams will meet again tonight in Atlanta.
