SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK IN GEORGIA CONTINUES WITH A FOCUS ON TORNADO SAFETY

Today is the third day of Severe Weather Awareness Week in Georgia, an observance led by the state Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service with cooperation locally by the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency.
Wednesday’s focus is Tornado Safety. Tornadoes posed a threat to the southeast (and even resulted in one fatality in Fultondale, Alabama) as recently as last week. Floyd County’s EMA Director Tim Herrington believes that was a reminder of the importance of being prepared for all types of severe weather.
Herrington encourages Floyd County residents to download the CodeRED mobile alert safety app, the Floyd County EMA’s mobile app, or any app to get the latest updates when severe weather is in the forecast for our area.
Herrington also recommends the purchase of an NOAA Weather Radio for severe weather alerts by the National Weather Service.
