Floyd County PAWS (Public Animal Welfare Services) reminds locals in the market for a new pet – adopt, don’t shop! Jeff Mitchell, PAWS Director, says that the facility at 99 North Avenue in Rome is open limited hours these days, from 1 pm until 4 pm every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, as extra time is needed to clean the facility. Expanded hours are anticipated in the not too distant future.
Visitors to PAWS may still interact with the animals, though such interaction is limited, asserts Mitchell. Therefore, it is wise to refrain from asking to see a pet unless you are relatively certain that you’d want to take him or her home with you.
Potential pet owners must now go through an application process before they can adopt an animal from PAWS, adds Mitchell. All animals are brought up-to-date with their shots and spayed or neutered before going home with their new owners.
