The 2020 Wings Over North Georgia drive-in air show is on the books! Air show fans packed the Russell Regional Airport in Rome for an opportunity to see the US Air Force Thunderbirds and other top military and aerobatic demo teams. Inclement weather led to an abbreviated show Saturday, though a full demonstration entertained the crowd on Sunday.
Major Michelle Curran, #5 and the lead solo pilot for the Thunderbirds (who goes by the callsign “Mace”), says that the coronavirus pandemic has limited her team’s interaction with fans at shows. However, this unusual 2020 season has given them more time to interact virtually.
Plans are already underway for the 2021 Wings Over North Georgia air show, which is scheduled for October 30th and 31st of next year. The US Navy Blue Angels will be the headliners for a second time.
