October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This annual observation is spearheaded locally by the Hospitality House for Women, Inc.
Lynn Rousseau, who recently returned to the House as its Executive Director, invites locals to enjoy a day of music at the 4th annual Phoenix Fest scheduled for this Saturday from 2 pm until 10 pm at the Brewhouse Music and Grill on Broad Street in downtown Rome. The doors will open at 1 pm. There is a $5 cover charge. Proceeds from the daylong festival featuring female artists will benefit Hospitality House. Rousseau asserts that donations of WalMart cards, sheets, towels and washcloths will also be accepted.

Local DVAM activities also include a Candlelight Vigil, slated for tonight at 6 pm at Rotary Plaza. It is intended to honor and remember people who have been impacted by domestic violence, as well as to celebrate survivors.
