WELCOME, SUMMER!

This is the first day of Summer. The Summer solstice at 10:58 am marks the beginning of the new season here in the Earth’s Northern Hemisphere.

Temperatures will be relatively mild due to cloud cover and frequent rainfall in Northwest Georgia to begin this new season. However, the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency is urging locals to prepare now for extreme heat. Tim Herrington, Director, anticipates that the heat will indeed be on as the Summer progresses.

In the event of extreme heat at any time this Summer, Herrington urges the public to keep an eye out for the elderly and children participating in outdoor activities.

Herrington also advises those who work outdoors to limit activity to early in the morning and late in the evening over the Summer.

Temperatures are anticipated to head back towards 90 locally as we head into the upcoming weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
