Winter weather could be headed our way in Rome and Northwest Georgia.  The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning that took effect at 10 am this morning and remains in place until 7 am Friday.  The warning is for heavy snow and black ice.  The Winter Storm Watch is no longer in effect.  Accumulations of one to three inches are expected, with up to four inches in higher elevations.  According to the NWS, rain will mix with and begin switching to snow in Northwest Georgia by early afternoon and spread across the rest of North Georgia in the early evening hours.

Snowfall is expected to create hazardous driving conditions.  In addition, black ice is expected tonight and during the early morning hours of Friday, once temperatures drop below freezing.

Also, the Flood Watch issued by the National Service earlier this week remains in effect through this evening.  A Flood Warning remains in effect for a number of area rivers and creeks.
