TWO ARRESTED IN WEDNESDAY MORNING SHOOTING ON SHORTER AVENUE

Written by Matt Davis on October 11, 2018. Posted in News/Weather

Two men have been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred on Shorter Avenue on Wednesday.

According to a release from the Rome Police Department, officers responded to an E911 call to investigate a shooting that had happened in the parking lot of 440 Shorter Avenue.  Rome police were dispatched to a shots fired call in the Alto Plaza shopping center.  An area resident reported hearing several gun shots.  When officers responded, they found a male victim on the ground; he has been identified as 43-year-old Sigmund Deaslo White.  White was shot in the back.  He was transported to Floyd Medical Center, where he underwent surgery; at last report, his condition was listed as stable.

The offenders were not present at the scene when officers arrived.  Criminal investigators arrived and collected crime scene evidence.  White provided the officers with information that led them to a location on Burnett Ferry Road. The offenders were located in a red truck and arrested at about 11:30 am. The suspects are Nicole Lynn Hill, age 35, and Michael Wade Hastings, age 28.  Hill had an outstanding failure to appear warrant on a previous drug charge.  Hastings has been charged with aggravated assault.  Additional charges are possible for both.

Those with any information about the investigation should contact Lt. John Walters at (706) 238-5122.
