TOURISM IS ALIVE AND WELL IN ROME AND FLOYD COUNTY!

Written by Matt Davis on March 11, 2019. Posted in Uncategorized

The state of tourism is alive and well in Rome and Floyd County.  A study by the US Travel Association indicates that tourists spent $158,850,000 in Floyd County in 2017, the most recent year for which numbers are available.

Kristi Kent, Director of Communications for Georgia’s Rome, attests that the city’s Office of Tourism specifically targets major events, primarily related to sports, that will get ‘heads in beds’ at local hotels; this provides a boost to the local tax digest.

Investments in the Forum River Center in downtown Rome are beginning to pay off, asserts Kent, as the venue has experienced an uptick in meetings and conventions in recent months.

Ice skating was offered at the Forum River Center for the first time ever over last year’s holiday season.  Kent says that some 17,000 skaters partook in this special offering, which is expected to return for this holiday season.

The Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism’s Annual Report for 2018 exhibited an upward trend in tourism spending throughout Floyd County to the tune of 5.9 percent year over year.
