TOURISM CONTINUES TO SPARK ECONOMIC GROWTH AND GENERATE JOBS IN ROME AND FLOYD COUNTY

Tourism continues to spark economic growth and generate jobs in Rome and Floyd County.

Preliminary numbers indicate that tourism had an economic impact of nearly $159 million in 2017, according to Kristi Kent, Director of Communications for the Greater Rome Convention and Visitors Bureau, who adds that official totals for that year will be released soon, while the numbers for 2018 will be released in the fall.

Tennis is anticipated to be a big draw for tourism locally during the early part of 2019, attests Kent.  She expects that downtown Rome will also continue to engage visitors’ interest in this new year; the area was a flurry of activity over the ’18 holiday season as ice skating was offered for the first time ever at the Forum River Center.

The tourism numbers for 2017 undoubtedly got a boost from the Wings Over North Georgia air show, which was headlined that year by the US Navy Blue Angels.  The 2019 air show has been bumped up to Labor Day weekend.

Visitors (and locals) may learn more about attractions, lodging and events in Rome and Floyd County online at www.romegeorgia.org, the Greater Rome Convention and Visitors Bureau’s website.
