As you know we had severe storms move through Floyd County last night.  Currently we have the following roads closed:

Hwy 293 between the GA 1 Loop and Dykes Creek Road

Turner Chapel at East Lakeshore

Turner Chapel at Mimosa

Sequoia Drive and Garrard Road

The Floyd County Emergency Management Agency advises all traffic to travel on Morrison Campground Road to Ward Mountain Road, then to Calhoun Road in order to maneuver around the damaged areas.  Currently we still have trees across the roads with power lines down.  Once the lines are cleared by Georgia Power work will begin to clear these road and make them passable.

The National Weather Service along with Emergency Management will be on the ground later this morning to make a determination if the storm was a tornado.  Emergency Management and the Tax Assessor’s Office will begin to conduct damaged assessments today, when those numbers become available we will post them.  As of Last night Georgia Power estimated 2,000 residents without power.  We will post further updates as they become available.
