STATE TROOPERS PREPPING FOR JULY 4TH HOLIDAY TRAVEL

Written by Matt Davis on July 3, 2018. Posted in News/Weather

Georgia State Troopers are getting ready for the July 4th holiday travel period.  The 30-hour period begins this evening at 6 pm and will end at 11:59 pm on July 4th, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.

The Georgia State Patrol investigated some 654 traffic crashes that resulted in 323 injuries and nine fatalities over last year’s 102-hour period.

Colonel Mark W. McDonough, Commissioner of the Georgia DPS, attests, “During the travel period, troopers will be on high visibility patrols watching for those who are driving impaired or distracted, not wearing seat belts, and other traffic violations that could potentially cause a traffic crash.”

McDonough additionally reminds motorists that the new Hands Free Law is officially in effect across Georgia, which prohibits drivers from using hand-held devices while driving.

The GSP will participate in the Operation Zero Tolerance campaign against impaired drivers over the holiday period.
