SPLOST COMMITTEE WHITTLING DOWN LIST OF POTENTIAL PROJECTS TO BE INCLUDED ON NOVEMBER BALLOT

Written by Matt Davis on August 4, 2017. Posted in News/Weather

The 2017 Floyd County SPLOST Committee continues its work towards whittling down options for a Special Purpose, Local Option Sales Tax to be put before voters in November.

One of the most hotly debated items on the 2013 SPLOST was the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College, which officially opened last summer.  City Manager Sammy Rich acknowledges that while the center may have been a controversial project, he believes that it has added to the quality of life for Rome and Floyd County residents.  Additionally, it has provided a boost to the local economy.

A proposed $4 million earmark for covered courts at the new tennis center is among the items proposed for this year’s SPLOST.  The SPLOST committee is anticipated to finalize a recommended package next week, according to this morning’s Rome News-Tribune.
