SHORTER UNIVERSITY’S NO. 1 HAWKS REMAIN UNDEFEATED, BERRY LADY VIKES ON WLAQ THIS WEEKEND

Written by Matt Davis on January 20, 2012. Posted in Sports

It was a victorious night on the hill for Shorter University’s basketball teams last night.  Shorter’s Hawks proved why they are number one in the NAIA with a 74-65 win over No. 4 Southern Poly in front of a packed house at Shorter’s Winthrop King Centre.  That was preceded by a 70-48 victory for Shorter’s Lady Hawks over Southern Poly.

Shorter head men’s basketball coach is proud of his Hawks, who were named the number one team in the country in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll, for which results were released earlier this week.  He agreed with the voice of the Hawks, Jim Bojo, during an interview on Matt D and Mullins in the Mornin’ on 95.7 FM The Ridge on Tuesday that he’s got a great group of guys that love the game of basketball.

Shorter’s Hawks are now the NAIA’s only unbeaten team with a perfect 18-0 record.

Tune into WLAQ AM 1410 tomorrow for Berry College women’s basketball  as the Lady Vikes host Spelman at 2 pm at the Cage Center on the Berry College campus.   The game will also be aired online at www.wlaq1410.com.
The crosstown rivalry between Berry and Shorter will be revived on Monday night with the annual Seven Hills Rotary Classic at Shorter.  Tip off is set for 6 pm for the women and 8 pm for the men.  The games will be broadcast on both WLAQ AM 1410 and 95.7 FM The Ridge.
