SEVERE WEATHER PREPAREDNESS WEEK CONTINUES WITH A FOCUS ON TORNADO SAFETY

Written by Matt Davis on February 6, 2019. Posted in Uncategorized

The observation of Severe Weather Preparedness Week continues in Georgia.  Today’s focus is Tornado Safety.  According to data from Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security, tornadoes are among the most violent storms and generate wind speeds that can exceed 250 miles per hour.  GEMA encourages families to know where to go in the event of a tornado; basements and storm cellars provide the best protection.

Floyd County’s Emergency Management Agency has a mobile app available which offers tips on how to prepare for severe weather; it can be downloaded from Apple’s iTunes and Google Play.

The statewide tornado drill has been scheduled for this morning at 9 am.
