SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK CONTINUES WITH A FOCUS ON LIGHTNING SAFETY

Written by Matt Davis on February 8, 2018. Posted in News/Weather

The observation of Severe Weather Awareness Week in Georgia continues today with a focus on Lightning Safety.

Lightning is one of the leading causes of weather-related deaths in the US, according to the National Weather Service.  Most of these lightning-related deaths occur during the summer months.

The worldwide web, of course, is a great resource for those searching for weather-related emergency preparedness tips.  Tim Herrington, Floyd County Emergency Management Agency Director, recommends www.ready.ga.gov and www.noaa.gov, as well as www.romefloyd.com.

The Floyd EMA teams with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service once again this year for the observation of Severe Weather Awareness Week in Georgia.
