Organizers of the Rome Shakespeare Festival have big plans for the festival and for the community it benefits.

The Rome Shakespeare Festival has been expanded this year to include five shows that will be presented over two and a half weeks.  Attendees will have the opportunity to view Macbeth, Much Ado About Nothing and Mystery on the Town Green II on the Town Green in downtown Rome, in addition to the Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) at MakerVillage.  There will also be a presentation of the Velveteen Rabbit at First United Methodist Church (in the Wilder Center).  Festival dates for 2018 are May 24th through June 10th.

Festival director Gail Deschamps indicates that the event has been expanded to accommodate locals and visitors with a varied schedule.  She also hopes to expand the festival’s economic impact on downtown Rome.  Deschamps ultimate goal?  To build a major festival!

The 2018 Progressive Dinner was recently held to raise funds for the Rome Shakespeare Festival.  Deschamps says that other opportunities to support the festival financially are available; interested parties can get more information online at www.romeshakespearefestival.com.

Auditions for this year’s festival are being held this week at Makervillage with callbacks slated for Saturday.  These auditions are open to the public; more information is available on the website.
