ROME CITY COMMISSION TO MEET FOR FIRST TIME IN 2012 TOMORROW

The Rome City Commission will meet for the first time in 2012 tomorrow evening.  Commissioners normally meet the first and third Monday of each month, but will meet on a Tuesday this time around due to the New Year’s holiday being observed today.  The commission will be joined by a new commissioner, Bill Irmscher, who is taking over the Ward One seat vacated by Wright Bagby, Jr., who did not seek re-election.  Irmscher was the only candidate to step forward and qualify for the seat.  The city’s November 8th election was canceled because there were no contested races, so Commissioners Milton Slack III, Buzz Wachsteter, Bill Collins, Kim Canada

and Evie McNiece kept their positions and will be sworn in tomorrow night.  And a Mayor for 2012 will be chosen.  Evie McNiece became the city’s first female Mayor last year.  City commissioners will meet in a caucus session tomorrow at 5 pm, which will be followed by their regular meeting at 6:30 pm.  Take a look at their agenda online at www.romefloyd.com.
