PLANT HAMMOND TO ESSENTIALLY CLOSE, IF GEORGIA POWER PLAN IS APPROVED BY PSC

Written by Matt Davis on February 1, 2019. Posted in Uncategorized

Georgia Power filed its 2019 Integrated Resource Plan on Thursday with the Georgia Public Service Commission.  The power company has requested the decertification of all four coal units at Plant Hammond near Rome as part of this plan, according to a Georgia Power media release; this essentially means that the plant will close before too long.

Thursday’s filing initiates a series of additional filings and public hearings to be held with the PSC.  Once this process is complete, the PSC is expected to vote on Georgia Power’s IRP request this summer.
