PLANS ARE IN THE MAKING FOR 2017 NAMI WALK, KICKOFF LUNCHEON SET FOR AUGUST 22ND

Written by Matt Davis on August 7, 2017. Posted in News/Weather

The Rome chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness is currently in the midst of making plans for the local 2017 NAMI Walk, scheduled for Saturday, November 4th at Heritage Park.

A Kickoff Luncheon for the walk will be held on Tuesday, August 22nd from 11:30 am until 1 pm at the Goodwill Career Center on Hicks Drive.  Anyone interested in participating in this year’s NAMI Walk is invited to attend, states Bonnie Moore, co-leader of NAMI Rome.  The goal of the walk is $60,000 and the theme is “Making Waves for Mental Health”.

Ansley Silvers, chapter VP, adds that money raised from the walk will fund educational, support and advocacy programs for local residents challenged by mental illness, as well as NAMI Rome’s Mini-Grant Program.

The mission of NAMI Rome, and the local 2017 NAMI Walk, is to erase the stigma of mental illness, states Moore.  Additionally, each provides hope to those affected by mental illness that there is hope for recovery.
