PEGGY WALLACE KENNEDY TO SERVE AS GUEST SPEAKER FOR THE 4TH ANNUAL HEARTS UNITED GATHERING

Written by Matt Davis on January 4, 2019. Posted in Uncategorized

One Community United has scheduled its 4th annual Hearts United Gathering (or HUG) for Thursday, February 7th at 6 pm in the Wilder Center of the First United Methodist Church of Rome.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Peggy Wallace Kennedy, daughter of the late George Wallace, segregationist and former Governor of Alabama, attests Rick Stevenson of One Community United, who expects Kennedy to share a tale of redemption. He adds that the times were tumultuous when Wallace ran (unsuccessfully) for president in 1968.

Stevenson also hopes to hear from Kennedy’s husband, the former Alabama Supreme Court justice H. Mark Kennedy.

The purpose of the annual Hearts United Gathering, according to Stevenson, is to encourage locals to ‘think outside the box’ with an ultimate goal of racial reconciliation.

The public is invited to attend HUG IV free of charge.  Special music will be provided by the Rome Symphony Orchestra.  Information is available on the event Facebook page; search for Hearts United Gathering (HUG) IV.
