ROME CITY SCHOOL BOARD TO MEET AT ROME HIGH

The Rome City Schools Board of Education will meet today on the campus of Rome High School.  Board members will convene for a caucus session at 4 pm in the school’s front office; it will be followed by their regular meeting at 5:45 pm in the cafeteria.

ATLANTA HAWKS TO CONCLUDE 2017-2018 SEASON TONIGHT

The Atlanta Hawks will conclude the 2017-2018 season this evening on their home court at the Philips Arena against the Philadelphia 76ers.  Tip off is set for 7:30 pm.  The game will be televised on Fox Sports Southeast.

ROME-FLOYD COUNTY COMMISSION ON CHILDREN AND YOUTH JOINS OBSERVANCE OF CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

The Rome-Floyd County Commission on Children and Youth has joined with other human service agencies (such as the Exchange Club Family Resource Center) to observe Child Abuse Prevention Month in April.

REED EMERGES AS VICTOR IN 2018 MASTERS

Patrick Reed emerged as the victor in this year’s Masters at Augusta National on Sunday.  It marked the first major victory in the professional career of the former UGA and Augusta State golf standout.

ATLANTA BRAVES SHUTOUT BY WASHINGTON NATIONALS

The Atlanta Braves were handed a shutout loss by the Washington Nationals by a final score of 2-0 on Monday night in the opener of a three-game series at DC, ending a five-game losing skid for the Nationals.

AAA:  MOTORISTS SHOULD EXPECT TO PAY MORE AT THE PUMP THIS SPRING

The national average price for regular unleaded gasoline hit its highest point of 2018 on Saturday at $2.663 per gallon, according to AAA, The Auto Club Group.  Sunday’s average of $2.662 is a half a cent more than last week, 13 cents more than a month ago and 28 cents more than this time last year.  Gas prices edged higher this week following Energy Information Administration’s latest weekly report that revealed that gasoline stocks dropped by 1.1 million barrels last week.  Additionally, the demand for gasoline continues to remain robust at 9.2 million barrels per day as spring driving season begins, which saw demand measured at 9.25 million barrels a day at the same time in 2017.  Drivers are likely to continue seeing prices increase as gas stations across the country begin to switch over to the more expensive summer blend ahead of the busy driving season.

The Rome City Commission will meet in regular session this evening.  Their gathering at 6:30 pm will be preceded by a 5 pm caucus at City Hall (the City  Auditorium) on Broad Street.

BRAVES BLANK ROCKIES EN ROUTE TO SERIES VICTORY

The Atlanta Braves blanked the Colorado Rockies 4-0 on Sunday in the finale of a three-game weekend set at Coors Field in Denver, allowing the Braves to take the series 2-1.  It marked Atlanta’s first shutout victory at Colorado since April 18, 1997.
