DAVIES SHELTER CONTINUES WORK ON THE RUTH AND NAOMI PROJECT, CONDUCTS POINT IN TIME HOMELESS SURVEY

The Ruth and Naomi Project, an effort by the William S. Davies Homeless Shelters to offer a homeless shelter to women and children in the community, should soon come to fruition, though its exact opening date has not yet been determined. Devon Smyth, Executive Director of the Davies Shelter, awaits the placement of a water line for the Ruth and Naomi facility on North Broad Street. In the meantime, work continues on the interior of the shelter. The community may get updates on the project via Facebook, attests Smyth, who urges supporters to stay tuned for information about a ribbon cutting and open house that will be held when the facility opens.

HAWKS CONCLUDE ROAD TRIP IN VICTORIOUS FASHION

The Atlanta Hawks wrapped up a seven-game road trip in victorious fashion with a 137-129 win over the Washington Wizards in DC on Monday evening, marking the second straight victory for the Hawks. It also resulted in an even 2-2 split in the season series between the teams.

COWLING ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION AS DIRECTOR OF ROME-FLOYD PARKS AND RECREATION

Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Director Kevin Cowling has submitted his resignation, according to a media release from Floyd County and the City of Rome. Cowling, who has served as parks and rec director since 2015, states, “I will forever appreciate the opportunity. My wife and I are fortunate enough that I will be able to pursue other options professionally, and I feel if we don’t take the chance now, it will be something we regret greatly in the future.” Todd Wofford has been named interim director of the department during this transitional period. Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord and Rome City Manager Sammy Rich are now tasked with finding a new parks and rec director.

The observation of Severe Weather Preparedness Week continues in Georgia through Friday. Today’s focus is Thunderstorm Safety. This is a good day to learn the difference between severe weather watches and warnings, according to the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency. MEN’S COLLEGE HOOPS ON AIR THIS WEDNESDAY

Men’s college basketball will return to the airwaves of 95.7 FM The Ridge on Wednesday night as Georgia Tech plays host to Clemson. The ACC match is scheduled for 7 pm at the McCamish Pavilion on the Georgia Tech campus in Atlanta; air time is 6:30 pm.
