ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE HAS EMERGED ONCE AGAIN AS COLLEGE FOOTBALL’S NATIONAL CHAMPS!

The Alabama Crimson Tide has emerged once again as college football’s National Champions!  No. 4 Alabama clinched the title with a 26-23 overtime win over the No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs in the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship game on Monday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

ROME CITY SCHOOL BOARD TO WELCOME FOUR NEW MEMBERS TONIGHT

The Rome City Schools Board of Education will hold their first meeting of the year this evening.  This will be the first meeting for four new members, including Dr. Melissa Davis, Jill Fisher, Alvin Jackson and John Uldrick; all were elected to their posts in November.

AAA:  GAS PRICES HOLD RELATIVELY STEADY DURING FIRST SEVEN DAYS OF THE YEAR

The price at the pump held relatively steady during the first seven days of the year, according to AAA, The Auto Club Group, which reports that gas prices in Georgia averaged $2.36 on Sunday.  The state average increased by a cent over the week and is 10 cents higher than this time last year.

GEORGIA AND ALABAMA TO FACE OFF IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME TONIGHT

It’s time for the 2018 College Football Playoff National Championship game!  Georgia and Alabama will go head to head tonight at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta in an all-SEC battle for title.  The game will be broadcast locally on WLAQ AM 1410, Rome’s radio home for Alabama football.  Kick off for the Tide and the Dawgs is set for 8 pm.  Air time for pre-game programming is 5 pm from the Alabama Crimson Tide Sports Network.

HAWKS EDGED BY CLIPPERS IN LOS ANGELES

The Atlanta Hawks were edged by the Los Angeles Clippers 108-107 in NBA action on Monday night in LA, marking Atlanta’s fourth straight loss.

AREA SCHOOLS CLOSED TODAY DUE TO WEATHER CONCERNS

Rome and Floyd County Schools, along with a host of other school systems in Northwest Georgia, are closed today due to concerns over the potential for winter weather in our area.

THREE CITY COMMISSIONERS TO BE SWORN IN TONIGHT

The Rome City Board of Commissioners will hold their first regular meeting of 2018 tonight.  Their 6:30 pm meeting will be preceded by a caucus session at 5 pm at City Hall (the City Auditorium) on Broad Street.

HAWKS FALL TO LAKERS IN LOS ANGELES

The Atlanta Hawks fell to the LA Lakers 132-113 in NBA action out in Los Angeles, California on Sunday night.  It was the third loss in a row for the Hawks and ended a nine-game losing streak for the Lakers.
