MUSEUM OF FLIGHT TO HOST 1950’S ‘SOCK HOP’ HANGAR DANCE IN SEPTEMBER

You are invited to take a step back in time and support the preservation of aviation history on the evening of Saturday, September 16th, 2017 at the Museum of Flight’s second annual Hangar Dance.  This year’s event will take on a 1950’s “Sock Hop” theme.  It is scheduled to take place from 7 pm until 10 pm in the hangar that the museum shares with Tiger Flight at Rome’s Russell Regional Airport.

FLOYD COUNTY SPLOST COMMITTEE TO HOST ANOTHER ROUND OF HEARINGS ON THURSDAY

The 2017 Floyd County SPLOST Committee will host another meeting on Thursday to hear presentations about potential projects to be included in a Special Purpose, Local Option Sales Tax to be up for a vote in November.  The meeting is slated to get underway at 5:30 pm at the Rome-Floyd County Fire Department Headquarters, 409 East 12th Street.  For more information, call the Floyd County Clerk’s Office at (706) 291-5110.

ROME BRAVES DROP HOMESTAND FINALE TO WEST VIRGINIA

In a minor league update, the Rome Braves fell to the West Virginia Power 11-3 on Monday in the finale of a four-game set at State Mutual Stadium, leading to a 2-2 split in the series.  Thus ends a rain-shortened six-game homestand that left Rome with an even three wins and three losses.  The Braves are off tonight and will begin a six-game road trip on Wednesday night with a match against the Lakewood BlueClaws in New Jersey.

VIEWS ON AIRPORT FORM AND FUNCTION HIGHLIGHTED IN ‘ART OF THE AIRPORT TOWER’ EXHIBITION AT TELLUS MUSEUM

A touring Smithsonian exhibition currently on display at the Tellus Science Museum provides new views on airport form and function.  According to a release from the museum, “Art of the Airport Tower” is composed of 50 photographs by Smithsonian photographer Carolyn Russo.  It explores the varied forms and functions of airport traffic control towers in the US and around the world.  The exhibit opened in June and remain on display through September 17, 2017.

MLB ALL-STAR GAME IS TONIGHT!

Tonight’s the night of the 2017 Major League Baseball All-Star Game!  The Midsummer Classic will take place at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida, home of the Marlins.  First pitch is set for 8 pm.

AAA:  GAS PRICES RISE, SNAPPING MONTH-LONG STREAK OF DECLINES

Gas prices in Georgia rose on Thursday for the first time in over a month to snap a 39-day streak of declines at the pump, according to AAA, The Auto Club Group, which additionally reports that since that day, the state average has risen by four cents.
